On Saturday 30 January 2016 our friends at the Harrogate and Knaresborough CLP will be hosting an afternoon dedicated to the Orgreave Truth & Justice Campaign (OTJC).
Barbara Jackson, secretary of the campaigning group will be giving a presentation on the push for a judicial inquiry into the events at Orgreave on 18 June 1984 during the miners’ strike.
There will be a screening of a specially commissioned film made in 1985 The Battle for Orgreave (directed by Yvette Vanson) and a chance to meet and discuss, with members of the group, the issues surrounding this highly controversial episode in trade union history.
Barbara will be joined by David Conn, an award-winning Guardian journalist and author of the critically acclaimed book Richer than God. David put the Orgreave scandal back on the agenda with an article in the Guardian in 2012.
OTJC will also run a stall selling their fundraising merchandise, such as t-shirts, badges, caps, tote bags, mugs, window stickers, DVDS, CDS, and books etc. OTJC is non party political but recognises very clearly that it is dealing with a political issue. It is an independent campaign based in South Yorkshire, made up of ex-miners, their families and supporters. It raises money by donations from trade unions, political parties and other groups, and by selling its own merchandise.
To be held at St. Roberts Centre, Harrogate at 2pm.
